Nanjiang (南疆), the southern part of Xinjiang
The Karakorum highway Over 16 years (1966-1982) the chinese and pakistanese armies worked together to build what would become the highest road in the world, the Karakorum highway. Far inland, the province of Xinjiang remains, to me, one of the most magical place of China. The Uigur muslims are in majority there. The culture, the food, the people… all makes you believe you are in an autonomous country… tricky subject… Pictures taken in Xinjiang in October 2009.
